Angel House
A Stained Glass Ministry
Angel House Stained Glass Ministry is located at Cypress Methodist Church in Cypress Texas
The Purpose of the Angel House

The primary goal of the Angel House at Cypress Methodist Church (CMC) is to donate our time and efforts to give glory to God. This incredible ministry is made possible by the unwavering dedication of our members and volunteers who work tirelessly to create unique items for special fund-raising events within our Church and community.

Through our creative endeavors, we are able to generate proceeds from the items made in the Angel House. These proceeds are then donated to various missions and fund-raising projects, allowing us to make a positive impact on those in need.

While our main focus is on creating beautiful items for fundraising, we also engage in additional beautification projects and community outreach initiatives throughout the year. These endeavors help us to connect with the wider community, spread love and joy, and make a lasting difference in the lives of those we encounter.
Joining the Creative Ministry

One of the most wonderful aspects of the Angel House is that we offer lessons at no charge to anyone who wishes to become a part of this creative ministry and join us in our mission. Whether you are an experienced artist or just starting out, we welcome individuals of all skill levels.

By participating in this ministry, you not only tap into your creative potential but also become a part of the social Christian life at CMC. We believe that by utilizing our talents, we are actively contributing to the vibrant life of our Church and bringing glory to God through our dedicated service to others.

If you have a passion for creativity, a desire to make a positive impact, and a heart for serving others, we invite you to join us in the Angel House. Together, we can create beautiful works of art, support meaningful causes, and spread the love of God throughout our community and beyond.

Cypress Methodist Church - Angel House
As a young boy growing up in the mid 70's at the age of 12, my dad enrolled my brother and I in the Boy Scouts of America - my first uniform. There my journey began with volunteer opportunities, being of service to our community, and helping others in need. I had no clue it would lead me to Angel House. Yes, both my brother and I attained the rank of Eagle Scout.

From scouting, I attended the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen Texas. After graduation, I served our country in the United States Marine Corps and later joined the Houston Police Department where I served honorably for 35 years. Somewhere in my earlier years after military service, I began to learn the art of stained glass. I partook in the art for several years and had to table it due to life and raising my children. I had no idea that life would take me to Cypress Methodist Church when my son entered scouting. For a short time, my son was a Boy Scout at Cypress Methodist Church and I served as an assistant scoutmaster. During this time, life took a turn which ended our time at the church. Both he and I were devastated. Upon retirement from the Houston Police Department in March of 2021, the creation of Caveman Glassworks began a year later.
As stated earlier, I was in a uniform at the age of 12, translating to short hair (in the 1970’s!!!). Military school followed, military service and then law enforcement. Now where was there an opportunity for me to grow long hair? At retirement, instead of purchasing a motorcycle to enhance any mid-life crisis, I decided to just grow my hair out (in protest – for what I don’t know) for the first time in my life. I had no idea that doing so would place so many labels upon me. A child once murmured to his to his mother as we passed one another, “… momma, that man looks like a clown” while another person said that I looked like Jerry Garcia (the guitar player for the Grateful Dead)... Hmm, ok. You see, I had no clue what I would look like with long hair, nor did I have any idea how to keep and groom the mop that was coming to life. Then one day the people from the church I was attending at the time, said that I looked like a cave dweller. Hence, the name "Caveman" and it stuck.
When first starting out with Caveman Glassworks, I needed glass supplies and met my friend Belinda of Lotus Stained Glass. She and I quickly became friends and she was soon becoming my go-to person for glass and other tools needed to jumpstart my business. It was not long after meeting Belinda that she mentioned to me that she met Debra Kinsey from Cypress Methodist Church. As you all know, Debra runs Angel House and she had asked Belinda to consider becoming a volunteer at Angel House. Well, Belinda passed the word on to me and after learning that the proceeds from stained glass sales goes to missions, outreach, and other ministries, I decided to “… take a look” … maybe learn something new or learn a new technique I did not already know.

The first day, I was paired with Charles Clauder because I wanted to learn about making mosaic stepping stones for use in my business and to give back to the church for affording me the opportunity to volunteer. Upon meeting Charles, I found myself quite humbled at his seriousness and dedication to the ministry. Following Charles was not an easy task. He made certain that I follow his exact steps to create long lasting mosaics and to use his recipe of cement and mortar – “… no more and no less… take your time and It’ll turn out just right!” Boy, was he spot on! I worked with Charles for several months and have since internalized his methods.

Soon I realized a year had passed since I began volunteering with Angel House and I had made a number of new friends who are fellow Christians. I cannot tell you how much I look forward to every Tuesday to fellowship with these friends and at times give a little blood due to mishandling the glass. It happens and Debra has plenty of Band-Aides. Most important of all, as mentioned at the beginning of this page, "The primary goal of the Angel House is to donate our time and efforts to give glory to God." As it stands today, my brothers and sisters in Christ at this ministry are Debra Kinsey, Charles, Clauder, Bill Bailey, Bill Gafford, Gail Liebelt, Belinda De Hoyos, and Beverly Hogle, Thank you Angel House, Cypress Methodist Church, and to everyone else for allowing me to serve!
